As a member of the firm's College and University and Non-Profit Organizations groups, Laurie advises institutions and organizations on their policies and procedures and aids them in various risk-management decisions. She also defends colleges, universities, private secondary schools, and other non-profit organizations in court, and in state and federal administrative agency proceedings. Recently, she helped obtain summary judgment in a major tort case against a college and its ski coach, and she is currently aiding in the defense of a wrongful death suit against one of the nation's largest universities.

Working with a diverse body of clients, Laurie has experience in a wide array of issues facing colleges and not-for-profit organizations, including experience in the areas of: negligent hiring and retention, wrongful termination, sexual abuse, student suicide, and personal injury matters. In addition, Laurie has experience in various state and federal compliance issues, such as Massachusetts regulations concerning summer camps and minors on campus, Massachusetts' Mandated Reporter law, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and state and federal employment laws.

Laurie is also a member of the firm's Employment Litigation and Counseling Group. She represents a variety of employers, from small start-ups to international companies. Her work is focused on defending companies in employment discrimination suits, in both court and administrative agencies, and she has experience in dealing with covenants not to compete, severance and release agreements, and minority shareholder issues in closely-held corporations.

In her spare time, Laurie enjoys hiking with her Portuguese Water Dog and snowboarding in New Hampshire and Vermont, where she grew up. She is also an avid reader and writer. At Tufts University, she was awarded the Mary Grant Charles Award for Non-Fiction Writing for her short stories about her family and its five generation history in Vermont.
